"So I was lucky enough to be invited onto the Wonderful Random Dialogues by Jane Tyson.
Unfortunately, this coincided with what seemed to be the hottest day since the invention of heat. My spare room faces south, and within about ten minutes it had become less of an office and more of a slow-cooker. By the end, I wasn't so much sitting in a chair as marinating in my own sweat.
To make things worse, half my face was in shadow, giving me the appearance of someone being interviewed for a documentary about organised crime, and I was genuinely concerned that my dry mouth would simply stop functioning altogether halfway through a sentence.
At one point my wife was passing glasses of water through the door wearing nothing but her bra and knickers. Which was enormously helpful, although probably not the sort of behind-the-scenes support they cover in broadcasting courses.
Despite all that, it was brilliant fun. The other guests were amazing and, just as importantly, genuinely lovely people.
What I didn't expect was the knock-on effect afterwards. The factory where I work is closing at the end of July after sixty years. Some of the lads on shift found the stream on a works computer, watched it together, and ended up having a really emotional conversation afterwards, inspired by what they'd seen and heard.
For me, that's the bit that sticks. In a world where most of us spend our time shouting at traffic, screens or politicians, getting people talking honestly to each other feels like no small thing.
