Golden Joinery

Crash.

A cheap white bowl from Sainsbury's slipped from my hands, shattering on the floor. I swept up the pieces and tossed them in the bin.

Later that morning, I met our wonderful new vicar, James, for a chat. We wandered through the local park and then sipped coffee. He was eager to learn more about our village and share stories and ideas. I said I’d write about one of the many topics we discussed in today's newsletter: the Japanese art of Kintsugi. Have you heard of it?

Kintsugi is the practice of mending broken pottery with resin and then gold. The cracks become part of the design, celebrating the history and beauty of the piece, even in its new form.

It's a bit like us.

We all break at times and then find ways to heal and regenerate. It's how we learn to bounce back and honor our transformations. Yet sometimes, we prefer to hide our scars, whether they are physical or emotional.

But what about our spirit?

The vicar and I both approach life from a place of love. We have different views on religion, but we share a belief in renewal, resilience, and regeneration.

Perfectly Imperfect.

“Empty Well”

So I go from one extreme to another... the fullness of Summer to an oracle (future vision ) card of ‘Empty Well‘

That day too I tested positive for Covid.

Initially I thought, great how can one fill oneself without first becoming empty…

Yet again a learning curve, to enrich myself, and possibly others in due course.

Then I read my latest Kindle Sample, ‘How to be invisible: Notes on Invisibility in a Time of Transparency’ by Akiko Busch.

As I recluse more and more.

Almost did not write this …Covid is very physically and mentally debilitating.

Don’t give up I thought.

The book sample was brilliant.

Not to everyone’s taste perhaps, with our modern self-centered and extrovert perspective leading these days.

So I sit in my empty well, looking up at the sky.

It’s beautiful.

And I watch the birds and clouds go by.

Or the 2024 Olympics.

🐤Guildford Swift Project

Gone! As if by magic! Our dear remaining breeding Swift only spent one night in the nest box after its mate had gone. The mate left on Monday night 29th July, and the remaining Swift spent 30th of July in the box, but left very early hours that Tuesday morning. The box next door has also gone and no Swifts can be seen in any of the boxes in our street, the skies locally have gone completely quiet.

A very successful year for us here this year with 2 chicks we know about, possible others in our street, but certainly 4 new boxes occupied this year, and screaming parties of 11 Swifts to enjoy here through July.
