“If you do not get vaccinated, you are a danger for your clients, you behave irresponsible and you might lose us as friends.” I heard them say. “It is important that all weak and elder people stay healthy and you are therapist, you have no free choice here.” They added.

“Why can we not reconcile with our pure nature?” I wondered. “Just as our bodies call us with pain or illness, once we do not hear our souls and minds, so mother earth is calling us with floods and pandemics, now that we are not listening to her as well?”

“What do you mean by reconciling?” They asked.

My friends Eugene Campbell and Bill Neely managed to get into Helmand Province in September 2006, during the very early stages of the fighting there, and film with C Company, 3 Para in Sangin. In a quiet moment Eugene filmed this photograph being taken. Over the last few months I have tried to get in touch with the men on the photo and invite them to share their experiences and memories of Afghanistan. This has resulted in a series of reports, looking at different aspects of that conflict. Here's the first :

Unlike every other team at the Olympic games, they do not share a country or even a language. Instead, for the second time in Olympic history, these 29 athletes from 11 countries are competing on behalf of the 82 million refugees and displaced people worldwide.

This team defies all borders, and it’s members have overcome extreme adversity to fulfill their dreams. Together they represent that whoever we are and wherever we’re from, we deserve to be safe and reach for our goals.
