At the other end of the bay there is the remains of a rare World War II "wall of light" decoy, which they used to burn petrol in at night to look like a town, to confuse WWII bombers.

But when the Luftwaffe came to bomb the dynamite factory, they did it in the middle of a hot summer's day.

A friend of ours mum was a little girl playing on the beach.

When they heard the hum of the bombers, the mums quickly hid all the kids in a cave...which was just as well, as one of the fighter escort broke off and straffed the beach.

No one was hit, but she remembered it was very close....and very very frightening.

As I type this section of Friday’s 6:08 am newsletter at 7:15 am 😳, my son’s just walked in from an all-night rave with his mates at “La Scala” in London. He’s been celebrating his A-Level results and acceptance at Sheffield Uni - HURRAH! Last weekend we explored the city, and I made »THIS Random Diavlog.

I’d also like to introduce you to my friend Adriana, whom I visited in Portugal ⬇️

I tutor her daughter Paz (meaning Peace ☮️) They kindly invited me to stay with them at their wonderful Amaral’s Boutique Guesthouse. We visited lots of special places, including a tile factory - I wish I’d taken a photo or created a video of the two ladies who painted the wonderful bespoke tile below because they had an emotive story… next time.
